Lenovo Maintains #1 Worldwide PC Ranking
IDC and Gartner both announced three days ago their worldwide PC market share rankings for the 4th quarter of 2016. For 15 consecutive quarters, Lenovo maintained its position as the world’s #1 PC company with a record high 22.4 percent* market share. The company continued to hold the top spot boosted by strong performance in Europe and the Americas, where Lenovo maintained double digit growth in the US for 6 quarters in a row as the fastest growing vendor amongst the top four.
“Our PC business stays strong, marked by record high market share and industry recognition," said Gianfranco Lanci, President and Chief Operating Officer. "This quarter’s record-breaking results are a testimony to our relentless focus on customer-centric innovations, which have won more than 60 accolades at CES last week. We are committed to bringing next gen PC experiences to our customers with devices like the ThinkPad X1 family, Yoga convertibles, Miix 2-in-1 detachables and Lenovo Legion gaming devices.”
Worldwide shipments of PCs posted a year-on-year decline of 1.5% during Q4, according to IDC, continuing the recent trend of stabilizing growth for the PC marketplace.
"The fourth quarter results reinforce our expectations for market stabilization, and even some recovery," said Loren Loverde, vice president, Personal Computing Trackers & Forecasting. "The contraction in traditional PC shipments experienced over the past five years finally appears to be giving way as users move to update systems. We have a good opportunity for traditional PC growth in commercial markets, while the consumer segment should also improve as it feels less pressure from slowing phone and tablet markets."
